Stroke: Signs, Prevention & Treatment with SMGH’s Emergency Department Medical Director Raghunandan Varma, M.D. As the No. 5 cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the United States, a stroke is a medical emergency. Receiving immediate medical treatment when experiencing a stroke can make a world of difference. Join emergency medical physician Dr. Raghunandan Varma, as he reviews how to recognize the risk factors and symptoms of a stroke and the preventative measures you can take today that can save your life. He will also discuss the three types of strokes and the importance of follow up care after experiencing a “mini stroke.” Refreshments and a free blood pressure screening will be provided beginning at 1:00 p.m.
